about

free preview track for the album "Music for Tai Chi" by Tom Green, released Jan 2012

This music was created in collaboration with Tai Chi expert Angus Clark, for inclusion on the related DVD release Tai Chi with Angus Clark (Living Movement/Fusion Media Sales CFDV991) and is specifically designed for ambient playback during Tai Chi practice, yoga, meditation, or simply listening and relaxation. Improvisations on an 'array mbira' (similar, but more complex than the African instrument) were performed in tandem with Tai Chi classes, and the resulting rhythmic patterns formed the base of these recordings, with additional piano and tabla, all resting on a complex, tanbura-like 'bourdon', or drone. In this respect the music draws influences as much from traditional music in Africa and India, as it does existing Tai Chi forms, while also incorporating processing techniques derived from electronic ambient music.

Music for Tai Chi is the second in a series of ambient albums produced by Tom Green for specific purposes. The first was Music for MRI Scanners, commissioned by the Royal Infirmary, Bristol for playback in the ancillary areas of a new scanner installation, and released on CD and iTunes by Another Fine Label in 2007. Now available on Bandcamp, digital formats, DVD/CD, or CD (both with instant download)
